Male & Female Pattern Hair Loss

Hair loss can affect both men and women, but it doesn’t always present in the same way.

Men often notice receding hairlines or thinning at the crown, whereas women tend to experience overall thinning across the top (often described as a ‘horseshoe’ pattern) or widening through the parting.

Although they are often grouped together, female pattern hair loss is quite different to male pattern hair loss. In men, it is more strongly linked to androgen hormones. In women, it can be far more complex with factors such as hormonal changes (including small changes in oestrogen), thyroid health, genetics and overall wellbeing all playing a role. It’s also not always something that runs in the family.

This is why no two hair loss journeys are the same, and there is never a one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to treatment.

At Bowe Hair & Scalp Clinic, Diane takes the time to understand the wider picture — looking at your health, lifestyle and any contributing factors that may be affecting your hair and scalp. This allows us to build a personalised plan to support your hair health, with the aim of slowing hair loss progression that you find with this diagnosis, and if possible, reverse already miniaturised hairs.

Male and female pattern hair loss is typically a slow, progressive condition. While there is no single cure, the focus of treatment is to slow progression and support healthier hair growth over time.

Through a combination of:

* Lifestyle improvements

* Nutritional support

* Addressing environmental factors such as stress, smoking, alcohol etc.

* Tailored hair and scalp treatments

we can work together to improve overall hair health and, in some cases, help restore density.

Every case is different, and results will always vary but with the right support, positive changes are possible.

If you’re concerned about hair thinning or any hair and scalp issues, Diane offers a calm, supportive space to talk through your concerns and find the best way forward.
